Attention Children in Grades 3-5: This month, Explorers! will be meeting on the Wednesday, December 9 in the Parish Hall from 3:00-4:30pm. We will only meet once this month due to Christmas. Our theme for Explorers will be a Christmas Celebration! Come and join in the excitement on Wednesday Dec. 9 after school! We are only 4 blocks from Jefferson School, so it’s a short walk to the church…and please bring your friends. Invite your friends to come and join us! Contact Pastor Dan for more info or to arrange transportation for your child.
Attention Youth in Grades 8 through High School: Our youth group gathering this month will be held on Sunday, December 13. Join us from 7:00 – 8:00pm or so. We’ll have a Christmas Celebration! Please bring a “GIFT”for a gift exchange game. Please note: The gifts should NOT be purchased! Please find something you have at home that you do not use any longer, that you are willing to part with…wrap it up and bring it along with you! And please refrain from bringing things like a moldy piece of bread that you found under your bed in your bedroom! And…as always…Please bring snacks to share…Pastor Dan will provide drinks! Call Pastor Dan with questions!
Attention Youth in Middle School through High School: In another part of the newsletter you will find information on: JOURNEY TO BETHLEHEM taking place on SUNDAY, DECEMBER 6 at the Luther Home of Mercy! If your family is not planning on attending that event together, we will be going as a youth group! We will plan to meet at Wendy’s at 5:00pm for a quick bite to eat and then we’ll head over to “begin our Journey to Bethlehem!” Hope you can make it. Please let Pr. Dan know if you will be attending so he can arrange transportation!
DiscipleShip Quest (DSQ) for Couples: If you are not attending Pastor Jim’s DSQ adult class, come and join Pastor Dan’s discussion and study focusing on God’s design for marriage and relationships. If you are married, engaged or very serious about your relationship with your “sweetheart”, join in the discussion and bible study on this topic. It is designed to enrich our understanding of what the Bible says about relationships, especially marriage; and to strengthen your relationship with the one you love. Join us on Sunday mornings from 9:15 – 10:15am in Pastor Dan’s office. If you have questions about this, please contact Pastor Dan!
St.
John “Grows” in its efforts to raise funds
for World Hunger! In an effort to raise awareness, as well as funds for world hunger, the pastors of St. John decided to go without shaving throughout the month of November. Their “fuzzy” faces served as a constant, visible reminder of the 963 million people in our world who go hungry each day! During the month, the congregation had the opportunity to vote for the pastors to either SHAVE ‘EM OR SAVE ‘EM! Each vote was $1.00 and everyone could vote as often as they liked…the more the merrier! All of the proceeds are to be given to the ELCA World Hunger Appeal. At the close of November (and after a lot of fun with this effort!), St. John raised a total of $577 for world hunger! We thank everyone who donated to this cause! |
