St. John Youth News August 2008
Middle and High School Youth: Our next big event is coming up on Sunday, August 17 at Put-In-Bay! We will take the 2:00pm Miller ferry boat to the island and head over to “The War of 18 Holes” Miniature Golf Course for a golf tournament (prizes will be awarded)! From there we will go to the state park for our St. John @ The Bay Church picnic at 5:00pm and then join in our praise worship service at the park! We will then return on the 9:00pm ferry boat, reaching Catawba around 9:20pm. The cost for mini-golf is $7.50 for youth 13 and over and $4.50 for youth 12 and under. The church will cover the cost of the ferry boat ride! Contact Pastor Dan with questions or if you want to go along…we will also post a sign-up sheet! Hope you can make it!
All Children, Youth and Families: The group Lost and Found will be in concert at St. John Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor on Sunday afternoon, September 28, 2008 beginning at 4:00pm. Lost and Found has performed at many ELCA Youth Gatherings as well as youth gatherings for many other denominations. They also performed at the Northwestern Ohio Synod Cross Training Event in May! They play a mix of fun, crazy songs along with some serious spiritual songs. Their concerts are a lot of fun for the whole family! Tickets are $10. Contact Pastor Dan at 419-734-5548 for more information or if you plan on attending with our group!
![]() Our group of youth preparing for The ELCA 2009 National Youth Gathering continues to prepare for their trip to New Orleans! The youth who make up our group are: Zach Auxter, Chalin Cahlik, Ashley Mooney, Lindsey Keck, Jordan Below, Jordan Wiewandt and Nicole Hablitzel. There are still a couple of others from whom we are awaiting commitment! Angie Auxter and Pastor Dan are the group leaders. Meredith Mooney (a 2007 Port Clinton graduate), Pastor Jim and Jean Lehman have applied to be on the “Volunteer Corps” for the gathering, which is a big responsibility as they are assigned tasks to help the gathering run smoothly! We are excited to have St. John, Port Clinton so well represented! The main focus of The Gathering this year will be on serving New Orleans and the surrounding communities which are still rebuilding homes and lives after Hurricane Katrina. In addition to worship, bible study and loads of fun activities, our youth will engage in ministry in these communities. We invite you to partner with us by supporting our youth through prayer as well as engaging our youth in conversation about their trip preparations! We also invite you to actively participate in our fundraising activities as our youth continue to grow relationships between one another as well as between all of you! Soooo…..On the weekend of August 2-3, the group traveling to New Orleans will be on hand during our worship services to invite you to take part in our “Pink Flamingo Fundraiser!” What does this mean, you might ask? Let us explain… Some morning you might discover that a “flock” of our pink, plastic friends had landed in your front yard during the night. If so, give us a call and for a donation you can have us put them in someone else’s yard. For each “flock” we will keep a list of whose yards they have visited! If you prefer not to participate, just give us a call and we will gladly remove them from your yard for you. You can also make a donation to us to have us put them in someone else’s yard to decorate their neighborhood! Or if you prefer, you can also purchase “Flamingo Insurance” for a mere $8.57, which will protect you from an invasion of these pesky pink critters! Join in the fun and let us see how many homes we can find for our flamingos!
“Explorers” has concluded for this school year, but…we will “kick-off” another year beginning: September 10 from 3:00-4:30pm! So…if you will be entering Grades 3-5 in the new school year, you are encouraged to bring a friend and join us for “Explorers!” We will be “Exploring” how the Bible affects our lives through hands on, experimental activities! More information will be coming your way in the August newsletter…so stay tuned! |
